10 Days Trekking in the Bale Mountains
Day 1: Arrival & Addis Ababa City Tour
Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, transfer to your hotel. Explore Addis Ababa’s highlights, including Mount Entoto’s scenic views, the National Museum (home of “Lucy”), the Institute of Ethiopian Studies, Trinity Cathedral, and the lively Mercato market.
Day 2: Addis Ababa – Lake Langano
Drive to Lake Langano (4 hrs). Relax on the beach, swim, or spot wildlife like warthogs and baboons. Optional activities include trekking, birdwatching, fishing, or horse riding.
Day 3: Lake Langano – Dinsho
Travel via Shashamane to Dinsho (5 hrs), the gateway to Bale Mountains National Park. Take a scenic walk to spot wildlife such as warthogs, Menelik’s bushbuck, and mountain nyala.
Day 4: Trek from Dinsho to Sodota
Begin trekking through the Web Valley to Fincha Habera waterfall, with chances to see Ethiopian wolves, raptors, and rock hyrax. Continue to Sodota.
Day 5: Trek from Sodota to Keyrensa
Trek through stunning landscapes to Keyrensa, with opportunities to spot endemic wildlife, particularly raptors and Ethiopian wolves.
Day 6: Trek from Keyrensa to Rafu
Ascend to Rafu, passing volcanic rock pillars with breathtaking views. Expect to see rock hyrax, birds of prey, and other wildlife.
Day 7: Trek from Rafu to Gerba Guracha
Cross the vast Sanetti Plateau and reach Gerba Guracha (“Black Lake”), the largest in Bale Mountains, home to various water birds.
Day 8: Trek from Gerba Guracha to Senetti
Explore the Sanetti Plateau, the best place to see Ethiopian wolves. Visit Crane Lakes and climb Mount Tullu Deemtu (4,377m), Ethiopia’s second-highest peak.
Day 9: Senetti – Harenna – Goba
Drive down to the lush Harenna Forest, home to Bale monkeys and Colobus monkeys. In the afternoon, continue to Goba for an overnight stay.
Day 10: Goba – Addis Ababa (Flight)
Fly back to Addis Ababa. Enjoy a traditional Ethiopian dinner with cultural dance before transferring to the airport for departure or hotel for an overnight stay.
