As we step into 2025, it’s the perfect time to dream of and plan new adventures that enrich our lives, excites our souls, and expand our horizons!
For me, Ethiopia was that dream—and what a remarkable journey it turned out to be
It all began with an image of the Roof of Africa, a breathtaking view of the Simien Mountains I saw on the BBC’s Planet Earth series. That moment sparked an idea of a trip I couldn’t ignore! And, oh boy, it didn’t disappoint me!
Standing on top of #Biuat (the second tallest peak, 4,437m tall) and gazing at the landscape of the Simien Mountains I certainly understood why.
While I was drawn by the promise of incredible hiking, #ethiopia surprised me in ways I didn’t expect. Its rich history—being one of only two African countries never colonised—has helped preserve a vibrant culture, traditions, and identity. Add to that a cuisine full of flavours , delicious coffee  and the warmest hospitality I’ve ever experienced , and Ethiopia became so much more than just a destination.
What made this trip very special were the people, especially my guide Belay from @simien_adventure and our incredible support team during the 6-day hike exploring #TheRoofOfAfrica.
Belay didn’t just guide me through the rugged beauty of the Simien Mountains; he introduced me to Ethiopia’s incredible flora, fauna, and even birdwatching, while encouraging me to push my limits and build the mental resilience needed to summit its tallest peaks. Belay was more than a guide—he was a window into Ethiopia’s soul.
Ethiopia and its ‘Roof of Africa’ left an indelible mark on my heart, and it just might do the same for you. If you decide to explore this extraordinary country, I wholeheartedly recommend reaching out to Belay, @simien_adventure .
P.S. As someone who believes in supporting local businesses wherever I travel, my recommendations are always based on personal experience and honest opinion .

What an incredible experience! Belay was the most knowledgeable, passionate and kind guide to accompany us on our 4 day walk in the Simiens. He also sorted out camping gear, a scout and cook (also both legends!) transport and all park admin for the trip.
Belay’s wicked sense of humour plus deep knowledge, love and respect of the landscape was always apparent – for example he spotted animals that other guides had missed (3 separate wolves, ibex and rare birds as well as the unmissable gelada monkeys), picked up litter that others had dropped, and shared stories of his time growing up here.
As a guide he always made sure we were comfortable and having fun, even when I was unwell one day. The food was epic too – both delicious and enormous (like really enormous!) portions.
I would recommend Belay from Radiant Ethiopia tours to anyone thinking of traveling to Gondar and trekking in the Simien mountains. He made the hike through the breathtaking scenery an even more magical, meaningful and unforgettable experience. We just wish we were there for longer! Thank you Belay!

Well organized trip, everything according to a pre-defined plan. No safety issues. The guide can also show places where only locals go. I recommend.
